History of Bedcote Morris...

Bedcote Morris was formed in 1991 to provide the town of Stourbridge with a morris side. They take their name ‘Bedcote’ from the feudal manor which became Stourbridge.

Bedcote morris is a mixed (having ladies and gentlemen) Cotswold side, with the majority of dances coming from the old village traditions of Adderbury and Headington in Oxfordshire and Bucknall in Northamptonshire. In addition, they also present several dances from other traditions and styles such as Lichfield, Upton Upon Severn, Upton Snodsbury, Peopleton and Bromsberrow Heath.

Bedcote Morris have performed at many festivals, weddings and other events and have danced on several occasions at Dudley Castle, Shugborough Hall and Harvington Hall. They have even performed ‘live’ on local radio WM!

The main aim of the side is to have fun and provide colourful entertainment, whilst at the same time, preserving some of our rapidly diminishing English folk heritage.

Where we practice...

Our practice venue is the Methodist Hall in Glebe Lane Stourbridge. You can find this on page 83 of the A to Z reference E3. To get there go from the Mary Steven's Park roundabout to the little island at the top of the Norton Road, down South Road and  take the first left into Glebe Lane. The Methodist hall is about 50 yards down Glebe Lane on the left (coming from South Road), just before the church on the corner of Witton Street. The red circle below is where you want to go!

We are always looking for new members. If you are interested in joining us please come along to one of our practice sessions held on Thursdays at 8pm. You will be made most welcome!

(we have a break in the summer so phone first or email to see if we will be there!)

Beer! Opposite the hall is an excellent pub called "The New Inn" where we usually retire to after our practice.
